Iowa Lakes Community College Foundation Announces Invenenergy Scholarship

March 14, 2017
Emmetsburg News

A new scholarship will be available for students starting in the 2017-2018 academic year, the Iowa Lakes Community College Foundation announced Thursday, March 9.

Four Palo Alto County students will be selected to receive the $500 Invenergy Wind Technician Scholarship; students must be enrolled full-time in the Wind Energy Turbine and Technology program to be considered.

"Scholarship opportunities for our students are greatly appreciated," said Jolene Rogers, executive director of community and business relations for Iowa Lakes. "The wind energy students have tremendous employment opportunities after completing their two-year degree."

Donor investments in students through scholarships yield multiple outcomes, she said.

"Students are more likely to complete their degree, as it lightens their financial burden. Scholarship recipients seem to have a sense of urgency to finish as someone other than their family has invested in their success," Rogers said. "And they often become future benefactors of others."

The scholarship application is online at iowalakes.edu - click on "Alumni & Foundations" and then "Apply for Scholarships" for instructions - and the application deadline is April 1. Students are encouraged to apply as soon as possible. By completing the application, students are considered for all Iowa Lakes scholarships, based on their responses.

"We take great pride in supporting organizations and educational institutions in the communities where we work and live," said Invenergy's Vice President of Development Kevin Parzyck. "The Iowa Lakes Community College scholarship program benefits outstanding students in Palo Alto County and we are proud to be part of this work."
