The Iowa Lakes Community College Nursing Class, that will be graduating in July, held a movie matinee on Saturday, Feb. 25, at the Riviera Theatre in Emmetsburg. The movie of choice was TROLLS. Admission to the event was toiletry products, which were donated to Upper Des Moines Opportunity (UDMO).
The students were able to donate three large boxes of items, ranging from: oral care, toilet paper, feminine products, shampoo/conditioner, body soap, deodorant, etc.
"These items are needed since the majority of donations they receive are food products," stated Peg Martini from UDMO.
DONATIONS TO UDMO -- Nursing students from Iowa Lakes Community College donated three large boxes of toiletries to Upper Des Moines Opportunity. "Families cannot use their financial assistance for toiletries, so this prompted the group to pursue this need," Martini added.
"The Riviera Theatre was gracious to waive their admission to the movie in lieu of a donation, nor did they charge our group any rental fees. So a huge thanks to them for their collaborative effort," stated Carey Leuer, President of the nursing class club for 4th semester.
The kids who attended this event, not only got the joy of seeing a great film, they also learned about giving to those in need and to support their community.
A special thanks goes out to the Riviera staff and the Hoyman family for opening the theater for the students that day.
