PRIMGHAR Emmetsburg's Lady E-Hawk golf squad opened their season on the links Tuesday with a 200-214 win over South O'Brien at the Primghar Golf and Country Club.
Meet medalist honors went to South O'Brien's Ally Sweeny with a round of 40, while Emmetsburg's Sarah Pugh was the runner-up medalist with a round of 45.
After Pugh's round of 45 for the Lady E-Hawks, Allison Freeman shot a 47 and Parker Traub added a 53. Emily Berkland carded a round of 55, while Gillian Nolan and Gretchen Hofstad both shot rounds of 59 each.
The Lady E-Hawk Junior Varsity players, Molly McCain, Hannah Malm, Courtney Wurzer, Somer Hudson, Savannah Wolfe, Logan White and Abby Berkland, also were able to play a full round at South O'Brien, even though South O'Brien did not field a JV team.
"Our girls played good enough to win on a very nice Primghar Golf Course, which is a very tough course and provided many challenges for the first meet of the year," noted Lady E-Hawk Assistant Coach Kort Freeman. "It is the type of course that you like to play early in the year because it exposes your weaknesses and what we as a team need to work on."
Freeman continued, "The JV girls all got the opportunity to play a new golf course and learn what it is going to take to become a varsity player. It was a good experience for them and we look forward to them competing for a varsity spot."
