Middle School Girls Repeat As State Champions

Eighth Graders Win Title

ANKENY - Emmetsburg's Eighth Grade girls track team pulled off a repeat performance this past Saturday, winning their division at the Mike Henderson Relays. The Relays are the annual State Championships for Seventh and Eighth Grade teams.

Under the guidance of Coach Sue Strube, this year's eighth graders followed in the footsteps of their predecessors in 2016 and took the state title in the small school division of over 50 schools. The Seventh graders would earn a fifth place finish out of the field of over 50 teams.

The Shuttle hurdle relay of Delaney Joyce, Brielle Madden, Jenna Joyce and Macy McAllister won the event in 1:12.30, a new EMS?School Record.

Also winning and setting an EMS?School record was the 4x400 relay of Mackenzie King, Raylene Poeppe, Macy McAllister and Taylor Steinkamp in 4:30.69.

The 1600 meter medley of Delaney Joyce, Bailee Lundgren, Abbie Schany and Taylor Steinkamp won in 4:40.3 and the 800 Medley relay of Jessica Walker, Maggie Nelson, Taylor Steinkamp and Abbie Schany finished third in 2:04.07.

Mackenzie King was fourth in the 200 meter dash in :30.12 and Delaney Joyce finished fourth in the 200 meter hurdles in :33.1. Abbie Schany took fourth in the discus, throwing 86'2" and Tau;pr Steinkamp was fourth in the long jump with a leap of 15'3".

Brielle Madden was fifth in the 10 flight hurdles in :18.12 and Isabella Householder was sixth in the 1500 meter run in 5:52.0 while the 4x200, with Brielle Madden, Raylene Poeppe, Bailee Lundgren and Mackenzie King finishing sixth in 2:02..11.

Macy McAllister finished seventh in the 10 flight hurdles in :18.41, while the 4x800 relay of Isabella Householder, Jessica Walker, Allison Fischer and Raylene Poeppe finished ninth.

Abbie Schany finished 11th in the shot put with a throw of 27'10", while Isabelle Householder finished 12th in the 800 meter run with a 2:555.4 clocking. Kady Traub earned 13th place in the shot put, throwing 27'3.5".

The 4x100 relay of Jessica Walker, Maggie Nelson, Jenna Joyce and Bailee Lundgren placed 16th with a 1:00.1 time, while Maggie Nelson finished 18th in the 100 meter dash in :15.41.

Kady Traub finished 19th in the discus 69' and Raylene Poeppe placed 22nd in the long jump by leaping 13'.

Seventh Grade Results

The 1600 medley of Nique Biliran, Emma Foxhoven, Lilly Ringlaben and Raegen Swanson took first in 5:03.41 and the 800 medley relay of Biliran, Shalaki Soukup, Swanson and Ringlaben earned first in 2:10.3

Olivia Chism was second in the discus with a throw of 79'9.5" and placed fourth in the shot put, throwing 25'5".

The 4x100 set a school record with a :59.66 time to take fifth place with Biliran, Foxhoven, Swanson and Ringlaben setting the mark.

Laney Montag placed seventh in the 200 meter hurdles in :36.65 and Raegen Swanson took ninth in the discus with a throw of 62'7.5".

In the Long jump, Nique Biliran was 15th with a jump of 113'1.25" and Shalaki Soukup placed 22nd with a jump of 12'6".
