Lady E-Hawk Golfers Claim Fifth Lakes Tourney Title

WAHPETON - It was a fitting way to say farewell to the Lakes Conference for the Lady E-Hawks of Emmetsburg. In their final Lakes Conference Golf Tournament appearance, Emmetsburg edged Spirit Lake by one stroke to win their fifth consecutive Lakes Golf Tournament Championship Monday afternoon.

Emmetsburg would shoot a 363 to edge out Spirit Lake with a 364. The final team scoring contined with LeMars in third with a 405, Spencer fourth with a 418, Estherville Lincoln Central fifth with a 419, Cherokee was sixth with a 432, Western Christian was seventh with a 434 and Storm Lake finished eighth with a 500.

Earning All Conference honors were the top eight individuals.

Spirit Lake's MArta Asensio Povar would earn the medlist honors with her 18-hole score of 73.

Emmetsburg's Allison Freeman claimed the runner-up honors with her scorecard of 85.

Third placd went to MAris Weeks of Spirit Lake with an 88, while Emmetsburg's Sarah Pugh finished fourth with a score of 89. Gretchen Hofstad would place fifth for the Lady E-Hawks with her score of 90, while Spencer's Chloe Baker was sixth with a 96. Emily Koonce of LeMars was seventh with a round of 96 and Emmetsburg's Gillian Nolan placed eighth with a score of 99.

Emmetsburg also got a round of 103 from Molly McCain and a 109 from Parker Traub Monday afternoon.

"I can't think of a better way for these girls to close out their participation in the Lakes Conference," noted Head Coach Ted Riley. "Their game has been improving steadily all season and after a pair of great matches last week, to win the conference tournament for the fifth straight year is a great reward."

Emmetsburg will begin their post season play on Monday, May 15, when they travel to Eagle Grove for Class 2A Regional Golf tournament play at the Eagle Grove Country Club. With a first or second place finish on Monday, Emmetsburg would advance to the Class 2A Regional on May 22, at Rice Lake.
