Big Winds Bogus Subsidies

EDITOR'S?NOTE: Due to the length of this Letter to the Editor, it will be run in two parts. Please find part 2 in The Democrat on Thursday, August 3.

I was disappointed of the poor attendance at the Wind Turbine program presented at the VFW July 18. What a wealth of information Professor McGovern shared. He told about his experience after he and his wife purchased their retirement home back here in Iowa, wind turbines were put up as close as one half mile away. He described the noise as "tennis shoes in a clothes dryer". He also shared the Warren Buffett said at a meeting in Omaha Nebraska "we get a tax credit if we build a lot of wind farms, that is the only reason to build them. The wind turbines don't make sense without the tax credit". I believe we ALL pay for these subsidies through our taxes. The very next line says "it is harmful to American taxpayers and energy consumers" That can be read at BIG WINDS BOGUS SUBSIDIES.

Some problems that were discussed were the decommissioning of the turbines. A company that rents out the type of cranes used in the decommissioning of the turbines said it costs $30000 to put a crane on the property, $1000 per hour while in use and another $30000 to dismantle and take away. It takes anywhere from 10 to 20 semi loads of parts to get the crane ready to go. When ready, it may be one of the cranes that weight 152 tons. What would that do to the tile, as it traveled across the field?
