Jackson, Bakken Named To All State Softball Teams

A pair of Palo Alto County athletes received special recognitions for their play during the 2017 softball season for their respective teams. The 2017 Iowa High School Softball Coaches Association honored Kate Jackson of Emmetsburg and Chloe Bakken of Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire with inclusion on the Class 2A and Class 1A All State Softball teams, respectively.

For Emmetsburg's Kate Jackson, it is the second consecutive year that the Lady E-Hawk earned a berth on the Class 2A All State Team as an Honorable Mention team member. Jackson, a senior, held down the shortstop's position, returning as one of four seniors to lead the Lady E-Hawks this past season.

During the 2017 season, Jackson would start and play in all 32 of Emmetsburg's games. In 64 trips to the batters' box, Jackson tallied 22 hits, including one double, and accounted for five runs batted in, while scoring 17 runs of her own.

Kate was walked 14 times, struck out 16 times, attempted to steal seven bases and was successful in stealing six bases, and was hit by pitches six times.

Overall, Jackson had an On-Base percentage of .374, along with a Slugging percentage of .384 and an overall batting average of .323 for the Lady E-Hawks.

Fielding, Kate had 97 chances for outs, and assisted on 38 outs, while making 49 put outs. She committed 10 errors, made six double plays and amassed a fielding percentage of .897.

For the Titans of Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire, sophomore Chloe Bakken was chosen to a spot on the Class 1A Honorable Mention team.

Bakken started and played in 29 games for the Titans, and in her 91 trips to the batters' box, she came away with 41 hits, including 10 doubles, three triples and batted in 34 runs, while scoring 27 runs of her own. Chloe issued three sacrifices, was walked on 12 occasions, struck out 13 times during the season, attempted nine stolen bases and stole all nine times.

Overall, Bakken had an On Base percentage of .509, and a Slugging percentage of .626 for an overall batting average of .451.

Defensively, Bakken was able to make 258 put outs on the season while committing 10 errors. She made 270 catches to amass a fielding percentage of .963 for Graettinger-Terril/Ruth-ven-Ayrshire on the 2017 season.
