Contests set for county School Board elections

There will be contested elections in each of the four school districts in Palo Alto County for the September 12 School Board Elections.

The final deadline to file nomination petitions was 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 4.

Emmetsburg

A field of five candidates will vye for three seats on the Emmetsburg Community School Board. Incumbent Jane Hoyman has filed for re-election to a full term on the board, and will be joined by first-time candidates Aaron Dietrich and Jill Graham, as well as past school board members Kathleen Roethler and Linda Mathis Tienter. Current Board members Tammy Naig and Rick Bird chose not to file for re-election to their seats.

Graettinger-Terril

A total of three candidates have filed nomination papers for the two seats up for election at Graettinger-Terril. Both incumbent board members Kyle Norris and Mathew Hanson have filed for re-election to their seats, and will be joined on the ballot by Tonya Feldhacker as a candidate.

Ruthven-Ayrshire

There are three seats up for election on the Ruthven-Ayrshire Community School board, with six candidates filing for election. Incumbent board members Susan Sikora, Bruce D. Long and Darin J. Malm all filed for re-election to their seats. Contesting those seats are candidated Rod Lilly, Jesse Radebaugh and Jeffrey Mark Thompson.

West Bend-Mallard

With a trio of seats up for election in the West Bend-Mallard district, incumbents David Bruellman and Mike Thatcher both filed papers for re-election to their seats. Christopher Montag also filed nomination papers for the third seat on the board, which is currently held by Wendell Schmidt, who chose not to run for re-election to the board.

For Iowa Lakes Community College Trustee Director VI, which includes the Emmetsburg, Ruthven-Ayrshire and West Bend-Mallard School Districts, incumbent Trustee Patrick Kibbie of Emmetsburg was the only person to file nomination papers for election to the seat on the Board of Trustees.
