Emmetsburg News

Emmetsburg Mainstreet Community Theatre is happy to announce the cast for the upcoming comedy, "Lend Me a Tenor" by Ken Ludwig.

Members of the cast are Jacob Neff as Max, an aspiring young opera singer; Jamie Neff as Maggie, Max's girlfriend; Jim Von Dolteren as Saunders, Maggie's father and manager of the Cleveland Grand Opera Company; Chris Myers as Tito Merelli, a world famous tenor, known also to his fans as Il Stupendo; Peggy Stolley as Maria, Tito's wife; Joe Veltri as the bellhop; Anna Veltri as Diana, a starring soprano in the opera company; Linda Jones as Julia, the chairwoman of the Opera Guild.

"Lend Me A Tenor" is set in September 1934. Saunders, the general manager of the Cleveland Grand Opera Company, is primed to welcome world famous Tito Merelli. Merelli, also known as Il Stupendo, is the greatest tenor of his generation planned to appear for one night only as Otello. The star arrives late and, through a hilarious series of mishaps, is given a double dose of tranquilizers and passes out. His pulse is so low that Saunders and his assistant Max believe he is dead.

In a frantic attempt to salvage the evening, Saunders persuades Max to get into Merilli's Otello costume and fool the audience into thinking he is Il Stupendo. Max succeeds admirably, but Merelli comes to and gets into his other costume ready to perform. Now two Otellos are running around in costume and two women are running around in lingerie.

"Lend Me a Tenor" is a winner of 3 Tony Awards and 4 Drama Desk Awards. Director Jackie VanOosbree has been thinking about presenting the show for quite awhile and is thrilled to be able to cast this madcap screwball comedy. She will be assisted by Lori Flynn.

"Lend Me A Tenor" will be presented Nov. 10, 11, 12, 17, 18 and 19. The opening night performance will be in conjunction with Mainstreet's 40th Anniversary. Audience members will enjoy an evening of food and refreshments.
