by Dan Voigt , Emmetsburg News

In a final score right out of eight-man football, Emmetsburg's E-Hawks claimed a 70-37 win over Sibley-Ocheyedan to open Class 1A District One play Friday night. The win improves the E-Hawks to 1-2 on the season as they prepare to travel to Western Christian in Hull this Friday night for district play.

After two tough losses in the opening weeks of the season, the E-Hawks were hungry to prove they could win, and the visiting Generals provided a perfect opportunity on Friday night. The E-Hawks took the opening kickoff and quickly engineered a 52-yard scoring drive capped off by a 14-yard touchdown run by Nick Schany with 10:02 to play in the quarter. Connor Joyce's kick was good for a quick 7-0 advantage.

Sibley-Ocheyedan would go nowhere in their first possession, but the E-Hawks would strike late in the quarter off a four-yard run by Dylan Kibbie with 2:57 to go in the quarter. The conversion kick by Joyce would give Emmetsburg a 14-0 lead as the quarter ended.
