Services for Robert Schany were held on Saturday, Sept. 23, 2017 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Graettinger. Father Clem Currans officiated.

Interment was in St.?Jacob's Catholic Cemetery in Graettinger. He received military honors from Nelson-Christensen American Legion Post 162. Henry-Olson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Robert Leo Schany the son of Leo and Lorreta (Higgins) Schany was born May 18, 1923 in Graettinger. He died on Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2017 at the PARC Hall in Emmetsburg at the age of 94.

He received his education and graduated from Graettinger High School. Bob served as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army during World War II, with service in both Europe and in the Pacific.

On June 13, 1949 he was united in marriage to Elaine Graettinger in Graettinger. The couple lived and farmed in the Graettinger area for all of their life. They spent their winters in Arizona for many years. Elaine died in 1999.

Bob was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church; Graettinger American Legion; VFW; Moose Lodge and Eagles Lodge.

Left to cherish Bob's memory are his children, Mike (Natalie) Schany of Armada, Michigan; Cathi (John) Valdez of Louisville, Colorado; Patricia (Howard) Gunning of Highland, Illinois; 20 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; siblings, Richard Schany of Graettinger; Gene (Janice) Schany of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Helen Schany of Las Vegas, Nevada; Dan (Eloise) Schany of Humble, Texas; Pauline Christensen of Omaha, Nebraska; and Irene (Bart) Braunger of Omaha; and several nieces and nephews.

He has been preceded in death by his parents; wife, Elaine; daughter, Theresa Schmitt; sisters, Alice Schany; Joan Diffey; Mary Nitchals; and Ruth Johnson; brothers, Bill, John, and Tom Schany and one infant sister.
