David Dean Oberg, son of Robert Dean and Margaret Inez (Olson) Oberg, was born June 9, 1956, in Fargo, North Dakota. He began his education in Mt. Vernon, South Dakota and after his family moved to Mallard, Dave completed his education, graduating from Mallard High School in 1974. Following high school he attended Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge and Northwest Iowa Technical College in Sheldon.

On July 1, 1978 Dave was united in marriage to Lisa Laubenthal at Holy Family Catholic Church in Emmetsburg. They were blessed with one daughter, Alexis.

Dave was employed as a maintenance technician for the United States Postal Service. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Emmetsburg.

Dave absolutely loved spending time at their boat house with family and friends and especially loved watching his grandchildren, Jozzlynne and Jackson, swim and enjoy the lake. He looked forward to riding his motorcycle and listening to all types of "good" music.

His best kept secret was the fact he had an incredible voice which very few had the opportunity to hear, unless they caught him singing to some of his favorite songs. Dave also enjoyed restoring furniture and doing woodwork, at which he was meticulous. Along with this skill, Dave developed a great interest in collecting tools.

Dave was a wrestler and loved following Big 10 wrestling. He also had an interest in pawn shops where he found great entertainment in finding the best deals. Dave loved horses and through this passion met the love of his life and best friend, Lisa, through their common love of horses and work with the Pony Express. Dave will always be remembered by his family and friends as the "quiet, behind-the-scenes" person who was always there to help others. A truly humble man with a beautiful heart.

Dave passed away Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2017 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NE, at the age of 61. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Margaret Oberg; his father-in-law, Al Laubenthal; sister-in-law, Shelly Feauto; and Don Voss.
