Emmetsburg News

The service for Iva Pedersen was held on Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2017 at the United Methodist Church in Ruthven. Reverend Kris Hackbart officiated.

Interment was in Crown Hill Cemetery in Ruthven. Martin-Mattice Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Iva Pedersen, daughter of Daniel and Florence (Wiggins) Angaloff, was born Nov. 16, 1927 in St. Petersburg, FL. Iva grew up on the beaches and boulevards of St. Petersburg with her mother and sisters. She had many adventures, including a job at Webb's City.

Iva met Willie Pedersen while he was stationed in Pinellas County, FL. They were married on July 16, 1944 in St. Petersburg before Willie was sent off to World War II. Iva remained in Florida until Willie had completed his tour of duty. They then moved to Terrill to farm and start their family. In 1956, they bought their own acreage east of Lost Island Lake near Ruthven.

Iva and Willie were blessed with four children and had the joy of sharing 61 years of marriage. Iva's family and the work of being a farm wife kept Iva busy throughout her life. She also worked at the Clay County Fair for many years and enjoyed giving out samples at the local grocery store. Her memberships in the United Methodist Church, Ruthven American Legion Auxiliary, as well as countless political and community activities consumed Iva.

Iva was not a passive woman. She was involved in a leadership role in nearly every organization she joined. She was involved in UMC Circle, the Democratic party, the Ruthven Bicentennial Committee, Ruthven-Ayrshire School Band Mothers, and dozens of other organizations. Iva was active in the American Legion Auxiliary for more than 70 years in Terrill and Ruthven. She was passionate about veterans and their service to the United States.

Iva passed away Sunday, Dec. 17, 2017, at the Ruthven Community Care Center in Ruthven at the age of 90. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Willie in 2004; a son, James Pedersen in 1998; and three sisters, Margaret Weiskopf, Doris Ferqueron and Florence Joseph.

She is survived by her children, Patricia Pedersen of O'Fallon, IL, Michael Pedersen and his life partner, Mary Coli of Park Ridge, IL and Charles Pedersen and his wife, Maura of Gainesville, FL; six grandchildren, Jamie (Dustin) Hicks, Tiffany (Ryan) Harper, Ross Tipton, Crystal (Matt) Stockdale, Sara Pedersen, and Abby Pedersen (Anthony Heron); great grandchildren, Wyatt Harper, Addyson Harper, Westyn Harper, Coltyn Harper, Dayton Hicks, Drake Hicks, Delaney Hicks, Liam Stockdale, Joshua Stockdale and Ian Stockdale; as well as many other relatives and friends.
