MILFORD - Emmetsburg's E-Hawks and Lady E-Hawks earned a split with Okoboji in a pair of games Tuesday night. The Lady E-Hawks would come up on the wrong end of a 60-40 score, but the E-Hawk boys would rally in the second half to earn a 54-44 win over the Pioneers.

The Lady E-Hawks would get off to a quick 7-4 lead but saw the lead evaporate as a solid-shooting Okoboji club took a 20-11 lead after one quarter and 37-advantage at the half. In the third quarter, Emmetsburg would trail 30-44 and would eventually fall to the sharp-shooting Pioneers by a final score of 60-40.

For Emmetsburg, Raven Brown and Molly Schany would both score 12 points each in the contest, while Abbie Schany added 11 points to the mix. Mackenzie King scored five points, with Gretchen Hofstad closing out the scoring with three points.

The setback gives the Lady E-Hawks a 7-4 mark overall on the season.

The boys game started slowly for Emmetsburg as the E-Hawks were scoreless in the first 5:00 of the game, but managed to come back to trail 13-7 when the quarter ended. The E-Hawks would match Okoboji in the second quarter to trail 21-14 at the half, but in the second half, the tide began to turn.

Emmetsburg came out of the locker room firing on all cylinders in the third quarter and outscored Okoboji 19-13 to cut the deficit to a single digit, 34-33.

In the fourth quarter, Emmetsburg continued to battle the Pioneers, who found their shooting touch hampered by the E-Hawk defense down the stretch. In the meantime, Emmetsburg would continue to score and pulled away in the final minutes to record the come-from-behind 54-44 victory.

Emmetsburg would get a career night out of senior Blake VerMulm with 21 points. Corbin Saathoff would add 10 points to the mix for the E-Hawks, while Hunter McAllister came away with eight points. Tim Geelan and Zach Mason both score five points each in the effort and Ben Dunlap chipped in three points to the winning effort.

The win improves the E-Hawks to 4-7 overall on the season.

Next action for the Lady E-Hawks and E-Hawks will be a Twin Lakes doubleheader this Friday at Manson Northwest Webster.
