Betty Weishaar

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Betty Weishaar on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Emmetsburg. Father Clem Currans will officiate.

Interment will be in Pocahontas Catholic Cemetery in Pocahontas. Martin-Mattice Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Betty Weishaar was born December 10, 1927 to Crim and Viola (Lambert) Uhls in Valier, IL. She was the youngest of five children and was a twin.

As a young adult she lived in St. Louis where she met her husband Edwin Weishaar. They were married on Nov. 10, 1951. Betty and Edwin moved to Humboldt and then to Albert City where they lived for many years and raised their children, Paula, Julie and Bruce.

Betty worked as a bank teller and at the age of 50 she went to Iowa Lakes Community College where she received her L.P.N. certification. Betty was employed at the Emmetsburg Care Center for 15 years before retiring.

Betty was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Emmetsburg.

Betty was a beautiful seamstress and loved quilting. Each of her children and grandchildren were blessed to receive one of Betty's quilts. In her retirement years, Betty worked at the Calico Cupboard where she was able to share her love of quilting with others. Betty volunteered at the Palo Alto County Hospital Gift Shop. She also enjoyed her flower gardens and baking.

Betty passed away Saturday, March 3, 2018, at the Emmetsburg Care Center in Emmetsburg at the age of 90. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edwin; and her siblings.

She is survived by her children, Paula Vogelsang (Pete) of Sioux Falls, SD, Julie Weishaar of Glidden, and Bruce Weishaar (Tami) of Reasnor; five grandchildren, Kristin Jensen (Mike), Katie Schlenker (Cody), Joel Clausen, Luke Weishaar (Amanda), and Josh Weishaar (Kara); and four great grandchildren, James Jensen, Eloise Schlenker, Connor Weishaar and Jackson Weishaar; as well as many other relatives and friends.
