Thank You, Everyone

April 3, 2018
By Anna Veltri , Emmetsburg News

As everyone that is over the age of 10 knows life doesn't always go according to plan. Last week I wrote an editorial announcing that my last day would be May 1. This week I had a routine obstetrics appointment and a couple of health concerns were identified. My doctor asked that I no longer work after March 30, so it is with a very heavy heart that I say this will be the last issue of the newspaper in which I will be an active participant.

Hopefully soon (but not too soon) you will see me out and about with a newborn. Feel free to come up and meet him/her; Joe and I chose not to find out what we're having so it will be a surprise for everyone. I will of course send my birth announcement to the paper so that everyone knows when Baby Veltri has arrived!

I want to reiterate again that I am more than grateful for my experience and time at the paper. I appreciate everyone that has offered suggestions and everyone that has offered compliments. This business can be difficult with long nights, weekends, and holidays, but it is also incredibly rewarding. I have made numerous friends that I most likely would not have encountered otherwise. I have had people in Emmetsburg touch my life and soul, and I hope that I have touched the souls of individuals in town.

I once again appreciate everyone's support and understanding as I have learned the newspaper software and the ins and outs of the City of Emmetsburg. I am grateful that everyone has stuck with me through numerous mistakes and errors (I'll admit it, I'm only human).

I am very thankful for all of the supportive comments that I have received regarding my family's decision for me to be a stay-at-home parent. A couple of people have suggested that I start a blog on parenting- it is something that I will definitely consider.

My very first editorial was about moving from a county of one million people to a county of 9,200. This county has truly made me feel like a gem, something I never would have felt back in Virginia. You all have given me self-confidence and self-worth. You've read my articles while I struggled to find myself not only as a writer, but also as a person.

I wrote in a previous editorial about my own personal struggle with mental illness. I want to repeat that anyone with the same struggles is more than welcome to contact me anytime. I am still here for you. My personal email address is anna.weems@gmail.com.

Currently, I am working towards a Master's Degree in English. In the future I would love to be able to teach at Iowa Lakes. I also have a lifelong dream of writing an epic novel (I just have to find the time to sit down and write it). You all definitely haven't read or seen the last of me. Thank you again for all of your wonderful love and support.

Also, I am not one to say goodbye; it is way too final so I think it is best to say "see you later."
