Lady E-Hawk Golfers Advance To Regional Finals

Emmetsburg's Lady E-Hawk golf team took the first step towards a return to the Girls' State Golf Tournament Monday. Coach Ted Riley's squad gave their coach a fitting birthday present by virtue of a second-placer finish in the Class 2A Regional meet they hosted at the Five Island Golf Course.

The Okoboji girls would win the team title at Monday's Regional with a 365 stroke team score, while Emmetsburg was second with a team score of 395. Garner-Hayfield-Ventura would place third with a 409 score, while Clarion-Goldfield-Dows placed fourth with a 443. Central Springs was fifth with a 455 score, while Pocahontas Area was sixth with team score of 466. Eagle Grove and Estherville Lincoln Central were incomplete and posted no team scoring.

The top eight finishing indiviudals and any ties automatically advance to the Regional Final, which will be played Monday, May 21, at the Garner Golf and Country Club in Garner.

Emmetsburg would come awqy aiwth three qualifiers in the individual competition, as senior Parker Traub would finish sixth with a socre of 87 over 18 holes. Also qualifiying for the individual play next week were junior Molly McCain with a 99 over 18 holes and sophomore teammate Gretchen Hofstad, who also shot a 99 over the18 holes.

Bailee Frayne of Garner-Hayfield-Vetura was the medalist with a 73 and Okoboji's Grace Butler was runner-up medalist with an 80.

The remaining Emmetsburg scoring saw senior Emily Berkland shoot a round of 100, while sophomore Somer Hudson carded a 103, and senior Hannah Malm shot a 108 over 18 holes.

The top two teams and eight indindividuals at next Monday's Regional final will advance to the State 2A?Girls Tournament, which will be played May 29-30 at the Lake Panorama National Golf Course at Panora.
