Lady E-Hawks Fall In League Matuchup At Newell-Fonda

NEWELL - Emmetsburg's Lady E-Hawks ran in to a powerful Newell-Fonday team Monday night and came up on the wrong end of a tough, 7-6 loss. The setback evens Emmetsburg's mark at 3-3 on the young season.

The game opened with both teams trading outs, but in the top of the second, Emmetsburg got a leadoff single from Annie Brennan, only to leave her stranded. The Mustangs would plate a run off a base hit and an error for a 1-0 lead to start the third frame.

The Lady E-Hawks would go down in order in the third, and Newell-Fonda would strand three runners on base to end the inning.

Back-to-back singles by Abbie Schany and Molly Schany got the Lady E-Hawks on the scoreboard when they scored off a fiedler's choice and base hit from Ali Laubenthal, but left Laubenthal, Emma Anerson and Mikayla Frerichs waiting on base.

The Mustangs countered with three runs of their own in the bottom of the fourth off a pair of singles and a double for a 4-2 lead to start the fifth inning.

Abbie Schany led off the fifth with a double and scored off Molly Schany's base hit, but Molly and Emma Anderson would be left waiting once again. The Mustangs would strand a runner in the bottom of the fifth to make the score 4-3 as Emmetsburg continued to battle.

But in the top of the sixth, Emmetsburg would take the lead when Ali Laubenthal led off with a single and was followed by a single form Brielle Madden before Raven Brown loaded the bases after being hit by a pitch. A base hit from Lindsay Carter scored Laubenthal, but Madden was caught stealing home and put out.

Abbie Schany drew a walk and Molly Schany also drew a free ticket to score Brown before Annie Brennan was put out. A single from Emma Anderson brought Carter home, but a fly ball left the Schany cousins waiting for a way home.

Trailing by a pair of runs, Newell-Fonda answered with three runs off a a pair of singles and a double to retake the 7-6 lead when the inning ended.

With one final opportunity, Emmetsburg came up in the top of the seventh and put Ali Laubenthal on base after being hit by a pitch, but she was put out on Brielle Madden's fielders' choice. Madden woulud get to second as Raven Brown walked, but Lindsay Carter hit into a ground to end the game.

Mikayla Frerichs took the loss, giving up seven runs, six earned, off seven hits, with nine strikeouts and seven walks.

Abbie Schany would get a double and single, while Ali Laubenthal and Molly Schany both had two singles. Emma Anderson, Lindsay Carter, Annie Brennan and Brielle Madden all had base hits.
