Lady E-Hawks Win In-County Matchup

A long-awaited in-county matchup on Monday saw Emmetsburg defeat Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire by a 5-4 tally in soft- ball action. The victory improves Emmetsburg's re- cord to 17-4 on the season.

GT/RA would lead off getting Taylor Park on base after she was hit by a pitch, but left her waiting when the at-bat ended. Emmetsburg came up and got a one-out double from Ali Laubenthal, who would score off a base hit from Annie Brennan, but Brennan would be left waiting when the inning ended with the Lady E-Hawks leading 1-0.

In the top of the second, the Titans would get Maddy Hough on base with a walk, but she would be caught stealing with one out and an infield fly ball would end the opportunity. But Emmetsburg would also be retired in order in the bottom of the inning as well.

The Titans would go down two outs to start the third inning, but Madison Norris got a base hit and worked her way around the bases off hits from Taylor Park and Anna Sorenson to score a run to tie the score at 1-1 when the at-bat ended. Emmetsburg would get a walk for Ali Laubenthal, but she would be left waiting when the inning ended.

With a 1-1 tie to start the fourth inning, the Titans got Maddy Hough on base after being hit by a pitch, and Emma Kral got on base off an error, only be caught stealing. Hough would get to third base but couldn't get home when the opportunity ended.

In the bottom of the fourth, Emmetsburg led off with Emma Anderson hitting a single and Molly Schany drawing a walk. Abbie Schany grounded out, but Mikayla Frerichs stepped up to the plate and pounded a three-run Home Run shot over the center field fence. Brielle Madden and Raven Brown would both be put out to end the inning, but not before the Lady E-Hawks had taken a 4-1 lead.

GT/RA would go down two outs in the top of the fifth inning, but got a single from Taylor Park, who would advance and score off a wild pitch and passed ball before Anna Sorenson singled. But Sorenson would be left waiting when the at-bat ended.

Emmetsburg went down an out in their half of the inning, but got Ali Laubenthal on base off a single. Laubenthal advanced off an error and then scored when Emma Anderson doubled, but was left waiting when the inning ended to make the score 5-2.

The two teams traded outs in the sixth inning, with Emmetsburg stranding Mikayla Frerichs as the inning ended.

In the top of the seventh, the Titans went down two quick outs, but got a single from Madison Norris and a walk from Taylor Park before a single from Anna Sorenson would allow Norris to score her run and a passed ball let Park come across the plate as Sorenson moved to second, but would be left waiting when Chloe Bakken was struck out to end the game with the 5-4 score.

Mikayla Frerichs tallied the win in the circle, going seven innings and allowing four runs, two earned, off seven hits with two walks and six strikeouts.

Emmetsburg would get a home Run from Mikayla Frerichs, while Emma Anderson and Ali Laubenthal both had a double and single each and Annie Brennan added a base hit.

For GT/RA, Madison Norris took the loss, pitching six innings and surrendering five runs, all earned, off six hits with three walks and one strikeout.

The Titans got three hits from Anna Sorenson and two hits from Taylor Park and Madison Norris.
