Lady E-Hawks Win Continuation Game; Take Two at Tournament

Emmetsburg's Lady E-Hawks improved their season mark to 16-4 Saturday with a pair of wins in the West Hancock Tournament. Emmetsburg defeated West Hancock 13-3 in their first game and then handed Northwood-Kensett a 21-3 drubbing to cap off the day.

West Hancock would score a run in the top of the first inning of the tournament opener, but Emmetsburg would answer in their half of the inning with seven runs of their own. Lindsay Carter, Ali Laubenthal, Annie Brennan, Emma Anderson, Molly Schany, Abbie Schany and Brielle Madden all came home to score for a 7-1 lead.

The Eagles stranded two runners in their half of the second 10-3 to start the while Emmetsburg added a run from Emma Anderson that gave the Lady E-Hawks an 8-1 lead, despite leaving Abbie Schany and Brielle Madden waiting when the inning ended.

West Hancock got two runs back in their half of the third, but Emmetsburg answered in kind when Raven Brown and Lindsay Carter both scored runs to make the score 10-3 to start the fourth inning. Neither team would score in the fourth inning and in the top of the fifth, West Hancock would strand two runners in their half of the inning. Emmetsburg came up and ended the game with three runs from Raven Brown, Lindsay Carter and Alit Laubenthal for the 10-run rule victory.

Lindsay Carter got the win in the circle, going five innings and allowing three runs, two earned, off six hits, with two walks and four strikeouts.

Emmetsburg got a triple and single from Abbie Schany, while Lindsay Carter had three hits. Raven Brown, Morgan Jamison and Emma Anderson all added hits.

In their second game of the tournament, Emmetsburg got nine runs in the top of the sixth inning to take a 21-3 win over Northwood-Kensett.

Emmetsburg scored three runs in the top of the first from Macy McAllister, Ali Laubenthal and Annie Brennan, but Northwood-Kensett got a run of their own for a 3-1 score.

In the second frame, Emmetsburg tallied five runs as Raven Brown, Macy McAllister, Ali Laubenthal, Emma Anderson and Molly Schany all crossed the plate for an 8-1 lead. The Vikings would be retired in order to end the inning.

The Lady E-Hawks added three more runs in the top of the third as Macy McAllister, Ali Laubenthal and Annie Brennan all scored runs for an 11-1 advantage. Neither team would score in the fourth inning and in the top of the fifth, Macy McAllister would come home to increase Emmetsburg's lead to 12-1.

Northwood-Kensett would score two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, cutting the Lady E-Hawks' lead to 12-3, but in the top of the sixth, Emmetsburg blew the game wide-open with a nine-run outburst. Abbie Schany came over the plate twice, while Mikayla Frerichs, Parker Traub, Raven Brown, Macy McAllister,

Annie Brennan, Emma Anderson and Molly Schany all scored runs in the at-bat for a 21-3 lead.

Northwood-Kensett would be retired in order, as the game would end by rule.

Mikayla Frerichs got the win, going six innings and giving up three runs, all earned, off five hits with four walks and eight strikeouts.

Emmetsburg got doubles from Parker Traub, Abbie Schany and Brielle Madden, while Emma Anderson and Lindsay Carter both had two hits each and Annie Brennan, Molly Schany and Taylor Steinkamp all had base hits in the win.
