By Dan Voigt , Emmetsburg News

In a game moved to Emmetsburg due to field conditions, Emmetsburg's Lady E-Hawks defeated Pocahontas Area Friday night by a 3-1 tally in a pitchers' duel. The win put Emmetsburg back on the winning track with an 18-5 mark

Emmetsburg would bat first and was retired in order to start the game. However, Pocahontas Area would receive the same treatment from the Lady E-Hawks to end the first inning.

In the top of the second, a leadoff single from Emma Anderson turned into a run after a single from Molly Schany and a single from Mikalyla Frerichs, but Frerichs would be stranded to end the at-bat. A walk and a single would put two runners on base for Pocahontas Area, but they were stranded to end the inning.

With a 1-0 lead in the top of the third, Emmetsburg's Lindsay Carter drew a leadoff walk and worked her way around the bases off a single from Macy McAllister and a single form Annie Brennan, but Brennan was left waiting when the opportunity ended with a 2-0 lead. The Maidens would draw a walk in the bottom of the third but left their runner looking for a way home to end the inning.

Molly Schany led off the fourth for Emmetsburg being hit by a pitch, and used the free pass to come around and score a run off a single form Raven Brown, who would be left waiting at second. Once again, Pocahontas Area would get a runner on base off an error, but left her looking for a way home to end the inning.

The Lady E-Hawks got a leadoff single from Macy McAllister and a single from Annie Brennan, but a double play took McAllister out and left Brennan waiting after a strikeout. The Maidens got a base hit in the bottom of the fifth but left their runner stranded once again as the defensive battle continued.

Emmetsburg would go down in order in the top of the sixth, and Pocahontas Area drew a walk but left the runner stranded to end the inning.

With a 3-0 lead to start the seventh, Lindsay Carter got on base with a single with one out, but left her waiting when the at-bat ended. The Maidens would get a one-out walk and pushed a run over the plate off three straight walks, but the bases were left loaded with a strikeout and put out to end the game by the 3-1 score.

Mikayla Frerichs took the win in seven innings, giving up one earned run off just two hits, while waking seven and striking out 14 batters.

The Lady E-Hawks got two singles from Macy McAllister and base hits from Annie Brennan, Molly Schany, Lindsay Carter, Mikayla Frerichs, Raven Brown and Emma Anderson.
