Palo Alto County Supervisors Question Engineering Invoices

On Thursday, June 28, the Palo Alto County Board of Supervisors held a meeting with Drainage Engineer Don Etler from Bolten & Menk of Spencer, to discuss several invoices that have been received.

"Drainage District 180, there was an informational meeting in December 2017," Etler said. "It was decided we were to do a reclassification, so landowners would have an idea of what the cost would be. It has been pretty complicated, but I have those reports with me today."

The total amount due on DD 180 is $28,536.50. DD 180 is looking at improved outlet and relief recommendations for Grand Ave in Emmetsburg. According to Etler, the design plans call for an open ditch with several sizes of tile going from the Casino behind Kathleen's. this project will cost roughly $1,500,000, with assessments varying through the different areas.

The discussion turned to 2014 FEMA repairs on DD 84, DD 175 and DD15 North.

Cost for DD 15 North is $345, DD 84 is $10,366.50 and DD 175 $13,803.50 for a total of $24,515. Work has begun on the remaining FEMA work in these three drainage districts.

The Annexation and Reclassification of DD 84 comes to a total of $3,044.50. The Annexation and Reclassification of DD 175 comes to a total of $4,751.50

A study and report of recommendations for improving the entire open ditch of DD 61 comes to $36,120, which has been paid.

The final Drainage Ditch in question is DD 80 Lower Main. A Study, report and repair recommendations total $18,590.50.

There were reports filed during this meeting with more reports forthcoming. A total of all drainage costs discussed during this meeting are $115,558. With DD 61 already paid, the actual total comes to $79,438. Reminder the meeting on July 3 has been cancelled.
