Funeral service for Janet Mortenson was held Sunday, July 1, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg. The Rev. Peter Morlock officiated.

Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery, Emmetsburg. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg was in charge of arrangements.

Janet Mortenson, daughter of Gene and Marie (Strodtman) Snavely, was born Jan. 29, 1940 in Emmetsburg. She received her education in Emmetsburg, graduating from Emmetsburg High School in 1958.

On Oct. 20, 1959 Janet was united in marriage to Robert Mortenson at Bethany Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg. To this union six children were born.

Janet and Bob owned and operated the B&J Caf for several years and then began driving school bus for the Emmetsburg Community School, where she was employed for 20 years.

She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church and the Sarah Circle.

Janet enjoyed the outdoors, attending family gatherings and spending time with her grandchildren. She did cross stitching and loved to read books.

Janet passed away Thursday, June 28, 2018 at her home in Emmetsburg, at the age of 78. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gene and Marie Snavely; three brothers, Bill Snavely, Ron Snavely and Don Snavely; two sisters-in-law, Jeanette Snavely and Lois Snavely; and a granddaughter, Calista Fjetland.

She is survived by her husband, Robert of Emmetsburg; her children, Robert (Sheryl) Mortenson of Emmetsburg, Jeff (Kathy) Mortenson of Mallard, Cory (Tammy) Mortenson of Emmetsburg, Julie (Kevin) Carver of Faucett, MO, Shari (Coke) Fjetland of Emmetsburg, and Tonya Petersen (Madhan Prabhakaran) of Emmetsburg; 20 grand- children; 11 great grandchildren; a brother, Keith Snavely of Emmetsburg; a sister-in-law, Jeannine Snavely of Emmetsburg; several nieces and nephews; as well as many other relatives and friends.
