The Palo Alto County Garden Club met on July 10th for a Tour of Prairie Pedlar near Odebolt, Iowa and the Loess Hills Lavender Farm by Missouri Valley, Iowa.

Club members gathered at the Wellness Center in Emmetsburg to board a bus for the day trip , which was organized by Kevin Fehr of Iowa Lakes Community College.

During the drive, a brief business meeting was conducted, with President, Cynthia Berkland calling the meeting to order and leading the members in the Pledge of Allegiance and the Garden Club Creed. A total of 17 members and one guest answered the roll call, "What are you going to enter in the open class at the Palo Alto County Fair?". The secretary and treasurers reports were read and filed for audit. President Berkland shared several items of correspondence.

In old business Jane Whitmore gave a committee report on the Blue Star Memorial program. Further discussion will be held at a later date.

Members were also reminded of the sign-up sheet for care of the Victorian House this summer and fall.

In new business it was shared that the Yard Of The Month for July was Tom and Candy Brotherton's residence, which features several hosta beds. With no further business, the meeting was adjourned.

The first stop for the day was at the Prairie Pedlar, seven acres of well tended grounds, 30 display gardens. Several refurbished buildings, including a bow-truss barn and country school invite guests to enjoy the simple pleasures of nature. The flower beds are neatly arranged into theme gardens that delight visitor all summer.

The club members then boarded the bus to continue to the Loess Hills Lavender Farm. A presentation informed the club members on the history of the farm and then a delicious Low Tea lunch was enjoyed by all.

Several of the items on the menu included the use of lavender. After a stroll around the grounds and the gift shop members loaded the bus for the return trip back to Emmetsburg.

The next meeting of the Palo Alto Garden Club is planned for August 14 and will include a tour of Aronia fields near Emmetsburg.
