VFW Members Gather For July Meeting

The members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2295 met for their July meeting recently.

Following opening ceremonies, minutes from the June meeting and a treasurer's report were reviewed and approved.

Thank you letters received from both Hannah Malm and Courtney Wirtz for the scholarships they received.

Members were reminded that coffee is being served every weekday morning from 6:30 to 9:00 and all members are invited to stop and enjoy coffee and conversation.

Commander Chamberlain reported that there was a good turnout for the 4th of July races and the bean bag games. The hot dog stand did well, but was rained out after one hour.

Commander Chamberlain reported that membership was down this year from 148 last year to 134 this year. Anyone knowing of an eligible member, is asked to notify Chamberlain or any officer to make a contact.

Commander Chamberlain reported from June 13th to July 7th, fireworks sales were good and that the VFW received rent from Iowa Fireworks Co. for the use of the parking lot. There were 742 man hours worked from the four organizations that sold fireworks.

It was noted there is a new State Commander, Carroll Whitmore.

A motion was made by Duane Meling and seconded by Bill Whitney to approve the application for our Vets to be in the Cly County Fair parade. Motion Carried.

Commander Chamberlain reported that there will be a District meeting on the 9th of September in Armstrong, Iowa.

The next meeting of the VFW members will be Wednesday, August 1st.
