Bids Awarded For Drainage Repairs

Drainage engineer Rick Hopper from Jacobson-Westergard & Associates of Estherville was on hand for bid letting on Drainage District 61 Lateral B during the regular meeting of the Palo Alto County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday, July 31.

A total of eight contractors submitted bids on the project that had an engineer's estimated cost of some $ 67,406.25.

Bids submitted to the Supervisors were as follows:

Abel Drainage and Excavating of Greenville -

$ 68,267.25

M & S Dirt Work of Breda - $ 65,091

Marlon's Excavating of Dickens- $ 59,926

Leroy & Sons of Arcadia - $ 44,456.25

Flewelling of Moville - $ 51,454.50

B & S Tiling & Excavating of Lake City$ 57,222.60

Erpelding Excavating of Algona - $ 74,794.65

Luft & Sons of Rolfe - $ 49,908.75

After all figures were double checked by Hopper, the bid submitted by Leroy & Sons of Arcadia came in with the lowest bid. The supervisors then awarded the bid to the firm for the DD61 Lateral B project.

In other drainage business, Hopper filed a report for Drainage District 23 regarding the take over of a private tile.

Hopper recommended that DD 23 take over the private tile that is currently owned by Mary Greene. This tile will be connected to the existing tile in DD 23 and become part of the drainage district.

A date was also set for a completion hearing on Drainage District 61 Lateral B tile. The date will be August 28 at 9:00 a.m.

In other business, the Supervisors approved a utility permit for Iowa Lakes Electric in Highland Township Sections 25 and 36 for an underground electrical line for a new hog confinement.

As a reminder, there is a meeting scheduled for Wednesday, August 8 at 6:00 p.m. at the VFW in Emmetsburg on Drainage District 180.
