Interviews Set For Associate District Court Judge Vacancy

Interviews for the District Asssociate Court Judge vacancy in Judicial District 3A Sub District will be Friday, Aug. 10 at the Clay County Courthouse in Spencer.

The interview schedule is as follows:

9:30 a.m.Travis S. Johnson

10:00 a.m.Kristal L. Phillips

10:30 a.m.Andrew J. Smith

11:00 a.m.Discussion and Voting

The interviews will be conducted in the District Courtroom of the Clay County Courthouse, 215 W. 4th Street, Spencer, Iowa, and will be no more than 25 minutes in length. The interviews scheduled above are open to the public. Discussion and voting by the 3A District Court Judges will be closed to the public.

Individual interviews between a nominee and any of the 3A District Court Judges prior to the interviews scheduled above are permitted at the discretion of each judge but are not required.

Nominees for the position are asked to arrive 15 minutes before your interview time, check in at the Office of the Clay County Clerk of Court, and then be seated on the chairs that will be located outside of the courtroom until you are called for your interview.

Each nominee will be given up to five minutes for an opening statement, followed by up to 20 minutes of questioning by the 3A District Court Judges

Each nominee will be contacted and advised of the nominee selected by the 3A District Court Judges to fill the district associate judge vacancy.

The vacancy was created by the elevation of Judge Charles Borth to the District Court, which occurred earlier this summer.
