Last Friday, 49 tractors made their way from Algona to Emmetsburg as part of the annual Kossuth County Tractor Ride.

Mark Bierstedt and Louie Bormann helped organize this year's ride. "Best part about it is the camaraderie," said Bormann, looking around at his fellow drivers as they enjoyed lunch in the picnic area at Brown-Robins Park.

The Kossuth Tractor ride has been going strong for 10 years but Bierstedt noted it has been taking place longer, albeit less formally. "Began as a joyride, really," he said. The ride signals the last day of the Kossuth County Fair.

Each year the organizers map out a different route. "When you have six cornfields on one side and six cornfields on the other side, it get's monotonous," said Bormann. This year's turnaround location was Emmetsburg. Smithfield Foods provided the lunch. The Emmetsburg Chamber of Commerce helped pitch in.

Bormann said the riders are grateful to local law enforcement for ensuring a safe route for the trek.

The tractors returned to Algona Friday evening where the riders were treated to a free dinner care of the Farm Bureau.
