Dennis L. Storey, Sr.

Funeral service for Dennis L. Storey, Sr. was held Wednesday, Sept. 19, at the United Methodist Church in Dickens. Reverend Donna Grey officiated.

Interment was in the Dickens Cemetery. Martin-Mattice Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Dennis L. Storey, son of Delbert and Viola (Arndt) Storey, was born October 31, 1943 in Spencer. He received his education at Lake Center. At the age of fourteen, Denny started a band which was the beginning of a lifelong music career.

Denny sang and played guitar with The Runaways, which was formerly Dee Jay and the Runaways and was started in the early 60s. The band had a national hit, "Peter Rabbit", in 1966. They played and entertained audiences throughout Minnesota, South Dakota and Iowa. They traveled to Canada as well as to the east and west coasts. While on the east coast, Denny performed on the T.V. show "Where the Action Is". D.J. and the Runaways played on the U.S.S. Forrestal, entertaining U.S. troops.

On August 13, 1967, Denny was married to Linda Hinders in Arnolds Park. To this union three children were born.

Denny and Linda owned and operated the Runaway Restaurant and Lounge in Ruthven and in 1994 they renovated and opened Lindy's Steakhouse and Lounge in Dickens. They operated Lindy's for many years prior to their retirement.

Denny passed away on Thursday, September 13, 2018, at his home in Dickens, at the age of 74. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Linda; a brother, Donald Storey; and a granddaughter, Melissa Storey.

He is survived by his children, Dennie and Kim Storey of Spencer, Jamie and Heather Storey of Spencer, and Christina Storey Steffen of Dickens; seven grandchildren, Adam Storey, Shania Storey, Morgan Storey, Michael Storey, Elle Storey, Tyler Storey, and Jaydi Steffen; three great grandchildren, Addison and Carson Storey and Roczen Storey; six step grandchildren; two step great grandchildren; nephews, Jeff, Joe and Jason Storey; cousins, Gary Arndt, Cheri Fry, Bob Arndt, Darrel Arndt, Mickey Arndt and Arleen Griffin; as well as other relatives and many friends.
