EHS to Play with Valparaiso Concert Band

The Emmetsburg High School Band will host the Valparaiso Concert Band on Saturday, October 13, at 7 p.m. in the Emmetsburg High School Auditorium.

The bands will perform together under the direction EHS Director of Bands Holly Prier and Dr. Jeff Doebler, director of music education and bands at Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, Indiana.

Doebler is the former musical teacher at Emmetsburg. He holds degrees in music education from Luther College, Valparasio University and the University of Minnesota, where he earned his Ph.D.

Professort Doebler's musical career spans more than 30 years, during which time he has trained other educators and has taught musicians of every caliber, from amateurs to professionsals.

Doebler has received many awards for his work in music education throughout his 30 years as an instructor including First Annual Student Teacher of the Year award, Orpheus Award and Valparaiso University Alumni Association Distinguished Teaching Award.

In 2005, Doebler was inducted into Phi Beta Mu, an international band conductors fraternity. In 2008, Sigma Alpha Iota presented him with its Friends of the Arts Carlo Sperati Award.

Doebler is active throughout the year as a guest conductor, consultant and clinician. He works with over 3,000 students annually and has appeared professionally in over 30 States, Canada, Malta, Australia, New Zealand and China.
