Call Out Domestic Violence

October 10, 2018
Emmetsburg News

October is Domestic Violence Awarenesss Month and the Family Crisis Center needs your help.

Current information available says that one in three women and one in seven men have experienced intimate partner violence in some form in their lifetime.

Domestic abuse is about power and control. This can include utilities listed in only the primary aggressor's name. Often the aggressor will disconnect service or destroy the phone altogether as a method of control. Family Crisis Center is asking you to donate your old cell phones.

Cell phones provide a way for survivors to communicate with their support systems. Used cell phones can dial 9-1-1, and survivors may even be able to set up a new service with themselves as the primary account holders.

Donated phones must meet the following criteria:

- All personal data has been erased;

- Pas code/lock screen is disabled;

- Micro SD card has been removed;

- Phones are intact/screens not broken (small cracks are okay;

- Battery present and in working order;

- Include the original charger that cam with the phone, if available; and

- Phone has not been reported or lost or stolen.

If you would like to donate your old cell phone, you may drop them off at any of these locations:

- Spencer Police Department;

- Modern Woodmen of America;

- Clay County Attorney's Office;

- Emmetsburg Police Department;

- Emmetsburg Chamber of Commerce; or

- Palo Alto County Attorney's Office.

Or you can call to arrange a pickup at 800-382-5603.
