Antone “Chick” Clausen

Funeral services for Antone "Chick" Clausen was held Thursday, October 11, 2018 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Mallard. Rev. Paul Schulz officiated. Internment was at Rush Lake Cemetery in Curlew. Joyce Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Antone "Chick" Clausen, 94 of Mallard was happy to go home to his Savior on Oct. 5, 2018. He was born near Webb, July 5, 1924, the fifth child of Ferdinand Nickolas and Wilhemina Hillmer Clausen. He was baptized in the Christian faith Aug. 4, 1924 and confirmed May 15, 1938, both at the Zion Lutheran Church, Ayrshire. He graduated from the Curlew High School in 1942. He worked for Bill and Anna Smith before entering the United States Army in Feb. of 1943. He served in the Pacific and was discharged in Mar. 1946.

After farming for a year, he trucked with his brother Paul, moved to Laurens and worked for Laurens Implement for 15 years, then moved to Havelock where he was Bus supervisor and eventually moved to Curlew where he was plant manger for Farm Services.

Chick began to engage in over the road trucking for many years, moved to Mallard in 1980 where he again was involved with School Bus mechanics as well as bus driving, retiring in 1988.

He was united in marriage to Opaldine Wojahn Clausen May 22, 1949 in Emmetsburg. To this union was born: Cheryl Charlotte, 1950, Cindra Antonette, 1953, Chaning Wojahn, 1964, Chadney Wojahn, 1966 And Corey Wojahn, 1968.

Chick was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, serving on various committees, also serving on the Lakeside Lutheran Home and the Palo Alto Country Veterans Affairs Boards and the Mallard City Council.

He loved to work mechanically, making over cars, helping with crafts and refinishing trunks. He also enjoyed watching sports and was a Hawkeye fan.

Survivors include his children: Cheryl Vis, Nixa, MO; Cindra (Dan) Mammen, Indianola; Chaning (LaCinda) Clausen, Urbandale; Chadney (Christine) Clausen, Mallard; and Corey (Irene) Clausen, Somerset, MA; sister Helen Crow, Whittier, CA, grandchildren: Charles and Shannon Cox, (Callie, Arie, Charles), Johanna and Michael Wodtke, Jessica and Aron Hassell, Nicolle Vis and Matthew Spurlock (Vera, Ruby), Aaron Mammen (Emma and Ethan), Katie and David Stout, Anna and Nicholas Mechem (August, Crosby, Marin), Timothy Bird and Sandra Villanueva, (Theodore), Benjamin Clausen, Max Clausen, Meredith and Stephen Cowperthwait (Anne), Nate Doige, Zachery Doige, Casey Clausen, Steve Cowperthwait, and Anne Cowperthwait.

He was preceded in death by his wife Opaldine, parents F.N. (Hap) and Wilhemina Clausen, brothers Paul and John, sisters, Marie and Dorothy, brothers-in-law, Carl, Charles, Raymond, Willard, Ed and Leonard, sisters-in-law Beverly, Bernadine, Fay and Normadine, son-in-law, Dennis Vis and parents(in laws) Fred and Louise Wojahn.
