Emmetsburg Takes Fifth Place In Conference Tournament

The E-Hawks took home fifth place at the Twin Lakes Conference Volleyball Tournament on October 9 and 11.

In its first match on October 9 in Manson, Emmetsburg beat Sioux Central, Sioux Rapids in straight sets, 26-24 and 25-18. Sophomore Macy McAllister dished out 15 assists and had five digs. McAllister also went 15 for 16 in her service game, dialed in two aces and had two kills. Freshman Raegan Swanson was perfect in serves, going nine for nine. She added two aces and eight digs. Junior Molly Schany had nine kills on 18 attack attempts. Schany also turned in eight digs and had two aces. Junior Gretchen Hofstad had six digs and added three kills. She also went four for four in serves. Junior Morgan Jamison had three kills on 12 attack attempts.

The E-Hawks lost to Manson-NW Webster in straight sets in match two, 25-12 and 25-22. McAllister had 15 assists and was eight-for eight in serves in the losing effort. Junior Heidi Malm saw some playing time. Malm was seven for seven in serves. Junior Savannah Wolff was six for six in her service game. Schany led Emmetsburg with eight kills; cousin Abbie Schany had five kills. Schany elder and Swanson had six digs each.

In Thursday's matches in Laurens, Emmetsburg beat Pocahontas Area 28-26 and 25-23. Junior Abbie Berkland doled out 17 assists, had five digs and went six for seven in her service game. Malm was 13 for 13 in her serves. The Schanys led in kills, with Molly racking up eight and Abbie adding seven, respectively. Schany elder had nine digs and also was perfect in serves, landing eight for eight. Wolff was nine for nine in serves, Gretchen Hofstad went six for six and added three kills.

In its second match, the E-Hawks lost to Southeast Valley, 25-13 and25 22. McAllister had 16 assists; Schany elder had eight kills and five digs; and Hofstad added five digs and was five for five in serves.

Emmetsburg rebounded in its third match, beating Alta-Aurelia 25-21, 13-25 and 15-13. Malm was perfect in serves, going 19 for 19. Schany elder had 17 kills and nine digs. Berkland dished out 20 assists; Hofstad had nine digs; Swanson contributed five digs and was five for six in her service game.

Emmetsburg returned home having taken fifth place in the tourney.
