Irene A. Pierce

Services for Irene A Pierce were held on Monday, Dec. 17, 2018 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg. Rev. John Koopman officiated.

Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery in Emmetsburg. Martin-Mattice Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Irene Anne Tripp Pierce, daughter of Detrich and Margaret (Herbst) Hessenius, was born Aug. 17, 1920 on a farm ten miles south of Benton.

She received her education in Laurens, graduating from Laurens High School. Following high school, Irene attended college where she studied accounting.

On Sept. 19, 1940, Irene was united in marriage to Alvie E. Tripp in St. Joseph, MO. To this union seven children were born.

They made their home on a farm near Webb where Irene helped on the farm and cared for her family. In 1973 Alvie, Irene and Arlene moved to Emmetsburg.

Irene was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and church circle. She enjoyed quilting at the church.

Alvie passed away in 1975 and Irene later married Leonard Pierce on April 27, 1990 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg. They continued to make their home in Emmetsburg.

Irene passed away Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2018, at the Good Samaritan Home in Algona, at the age of 98.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alvie Tripp; her husband, Leonard Pierce; three sons, Albert Tripp, Alvin Tripp and Alan Tripp; a granddaughter, Jenifer Webster; two grandsons, Larry Alan Tripp and John Tripp; three brothers, Arnold Hessenius, Walter Hessenius and Willard Hessenius; and three sisters, Alvira Wingerson, L.uella Carter and Helen TullisShe is survived by two sons, Arnold Tripp of Albert Lea, MN, Dale Tripp of Everly; two daughters, Ilene (Darrell) Birchard of Dayton, OH and Arlene Webster of Bode; thirty grandchildren; fifty five great grandchildren; twenty one great-great grandchildren; as well as many other relatives and friends.
