Services for Shirley L. Smith were held on Wed. December 19, 2018 at the Martin-Mattice Chapel, in Ayrshire. Rev. Kris Hackbart presided.

Interment was in Silver Lake Cemetery near Ayrshire.

Martin-Mattice Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Shirley Lee Smith was born on October 18, 1927 in Ayrshire, the daughter of Ira and Josephine (Stephas) Bowman. She received her education at Ayrshire Consolidated School.

On October 17, 1946, Shirley was united in marriage to C. Elmer Smith. To this union three sons were born.

All her life Shirley called Ayrshire home, where she and her husband operated Elmer's Gyp Joint, a D-X and North Star service station, and where they raised their sons. Shirley loved the small community and oftentimes could be seen walking around town getting her exercise and visiting with anyone who had time to chat.

Shirley joined the United Methodist Church in Ayrshire in 1941 where she was a devoted and active member of church and church circle.

Surviving are her sons, Jody E. (Tricia) Smith of West Des Moines and Lynn J. (Kate) Smith of Grain Valley, MO; four grandsons, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son, Rex Allen, seven brothers and six sisters.
