E-Hawks Place First At Twin Lakes Conference Invite

The Emmetsburg E-Hawk Wrestling squad traveled to the Twin Lakes Invitational in Storm Lake on Saturday to face off against five other Twin Lakes Conference teams.

The wrestling team looked to continue its success after two dominating performances against Manson Northwest (61 to 9) Webster and South Central Calhoun (48 to 19) on January 8th.

Three of the E-Hawks placed first in their weight classes. Ethan Berven (23-3) secured his first place finish against Manson Northwest Webster's Carson Collins (22-3) after a 5-0 decision in the 132-pound bout. In the 145-pound championship matchup, The Predicament's Class 1A 2nd ranked Spencer Griffin (28-1) won against Pocahontas Area's Thomas Melohn (23-11) after a six minute technical fall score of 17-0. Rounding out the E-Hawk's first place finishers was the 12-5 decision win by Mason Griffin (25-4) against Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire's (GT/RA) Spencer Roth (29-2) in the 160-pound weight class.

Other notable performances for the E-Hawks were Sean Brennan at 113-pounds and Jon Lace II at 195-pounds who both sealed a second place finish in their weight classes.

Nic Lowe (106 pounds), Colten Andersen (138 pounds), and Bret Hoyman (152 pounds) each placed third.

After all matches were complete, Emmetsburg walked away the Twin Lakes Invitational Champions with a combined score of 212.5 that just narrowly beat the 2nd place GT/RA with 212.0 points.

The other Twin Lakes Conference school finishers are Southeast Valley at 3rd place (185.5), Alta-Aurelia at 5th place (133.5), Manson NW Webster at 6th (115.0), and Pocahontas Area at 9th (58.0).

Following the Twin Lakes Invite, the E-Hawks will round out there season on January 17th, 18th, 19th and 22nd before a short break in between Sectionals competition on February 2nd.
