The Emmetsburg E-Hawks Girls Basketball team defended their home court against a tough 9-5 Sioux Central Rebels team.

Heading into the contest, the Lady Hawks (6-6 overall; 5-3 conference) were coming off a three game win streak after outscoring Manson-NW Webster 65-32 on January 11. The Rebels, who have the 4th best win/loss record (9-5 overall) in the conference, were averaging 51.4 points per game this season.

The E-Hawks and Rebels were playing tough with a 30-21 score at the end of the first half. At the end of the game, the Lady Hawks kept their strong lead from the half and defeated the Rebels 63-53.

Sophomore Abbie Schany went off on the Rebels with a season high of 21 points and grabbed another season high record of 11 rebounds. Abbie was also able to match her career high four 3-point shots made. Junior Raven Brown matched Schany with four behind the arc shots in the game that surpassed her previous career best of two. Brown ended the night with 14 points, two rebounds and one assist.

The other starters had a strong contribution too with Molly Schany ending her night with 14 points, eight rebounds, and went 6 for 9 from the line. Juniors Lindsay Carter and Gretchen Hofstad both scored 5 points. Carter led the team in assists with five.

Hailey Foxhoven and Taylor Steinkamp both scored two points.

The E-Hawk girls showed their aggressiveness with a combined 27 rebounds, made 20 of their 40 field goal attempts, and went 13 for 21 from the line on their free throws. With their combined efforts the home team came away with the win 63-53 to improve their record to 7-6 overall.

The team will head North to Estherville this Thursday for a non-conference game against the Estherville-Lincoln-Central Midgets.
