The Emmetsburg girls basketball won against the Estherville-Lincoln-Central Midgets in dramatic fashion at home on Thursday, January 17.

Heading into the second quarter, the E'Hawks were up on the Midgets 11-9. Later into the first quarter the team started to find its rhythm and displayed the same great ball movement that started to open up the point spread.

The team went up 18-11 with 2:22 to go in the first half. The Midgets weren't going away without a fight, starting to give the E'Hawks issues down low with offensive rebounds. Eventually closing the gap to 20-15 going into the half time break.

After the break, Molly Schany who ended the night with 16 total rebounds and a team high 13 points, started to find her groove and the fast paced ball movement started to get the Midgets into foul trouble at the end of the 3rd with the score at 33-26.

During the 4th, Raven Brown (8 points), scored during the first two possessions taking the lead to 37-28.

The game continued to get intense and lead to Abbie Schany (6 points, 5 rebounds) ending her night after a large gash on her forehead took her to the locker room early with less than five minutes to go in the game.

The Midgets began to close the gap after a long 2-point shot and a foul by Raven Brown who sent the Midgets to the line to close the gap 43-40 with just 46 seconds to go. The Lady E'Hawks kept adding to the lead as Hailey Foxhoven made one of her two free throw shots to make the score 44-40.

The Midgets made it a one-point game after a long 3-pointer with the score now 44-43. With just eight seconds to go, Molly Schany was sent to the line after another rebound making one of her two free throws to go up 46-43.

The Midgets were unable to make the game tying shot at the buzzer and the Lady E'Hawks walked away securing a 5-game winning streak.

The team heads to Newell-Fonda on January 22 in hopes to continue their succes.
