Volunteer Your Time To Change A Child’s Life

February 6, 2019
Emmetsburg News

The Foster Care Review Board (FCRB) is comprised of citizen volunteers from a variety of professions and backgrounds.

It allows ordinary citizens to use their talents to positively impact the lives of vulnerable children and families.

The board reviews cases of children in foster care in Palo Alto, Emmett, and Kossuth Counties to help ensure children are safe and well cared for in the state foster care system, and that cases are being moved to permanency in a timely manner.

Advisory recommendations in the child's best interest are provided by the boards to the Court and other system officials.

This Board meets every other month for a half day. Interview, background checks, and 8-hour pre-service training are required prior to serving.

Once trained, volunteers are sworn in by the local court.

Board members review files electronically so computer skills are required.

Please complete application online: iowachildadvocacymatch.com.

There are 15 children in relative care, group care, or foster care in Kossuth County.

In Palo Alto County there are 22 children in care. That number in Emmet County is at 57 children.

We are looking for three new board members to serve on the board. The board meets every other month in Emmetsburg.

It is not required that you live in the counties served to be on the board.

For more information on what you can do to serve the children in your community please contact

Melissa Loehr, Program Coordinator, Phone: 855-372-0358 or melissa.loehr @dia.iowa.gov.
