Emmetsburg News

RUTHVEN -- A Chili Contest is brewing at the Nature Center on Saturday, Feb. 16, from 2 to 3 p.m.

Cooks who want to show off their chili making skills are encouraged to enter. Just cook up a crock pot filled with chili and take it to the Nature Center at 1:30 p.m. Saturday for a public tasting event.

The pubic will decide on the winning chili. Cost to try the chilis is $5 per person with kids 12 and under free. The menu includes famous cornbread and wonderful cinnamon rolls.

Chili makers must pre-register by calling 712-837-4866 by Tuesday, Feb. 12. Chili makers must be 18 and up in age.

Since chili eaters will be deciding the winner, chili makers are encouraged to bring friends and family if they want to win bragging rights and a prize!

The Palo Alto County Conservation Board is also offering a youth ice fishing clinic from 8 to 10 a.m. on Feb. 16 for kids ages 7-15.

Kids can try their luck at catching some fish by calling the Nature Center at 712-837-4866 by Feb. 14 to reserve a time slot. Ice hut, pole, and bait provided.

Join the fun at L.I.R.B.A. Cabin Fever Weekend.
