Discussions on the need for a new county jail continued Tuesday, Feb. 5, during the Palo Alto County Board of Supervisors regular meeting.

On hand was Holly Birkey, Business Development Manager from The Samuels Group of Des Moines.

""Are we looking at a big enough jail so it will alleviate sending inmates to other counties and potentially what size are we looking at?" Supervisor Chairman Craig Merrill asked.

"We would want one that would hold our inmates so we do not have to send them to another county," Palo Alto County Sheriff Lynn Schultes said.

Schultes went on to explain that building a new jail will change the dynamics that the current jail has been running under for sometime.

The new law says that county jails need to classify inmates and keep them separate.
