A meeting between engineers from Bolton & Menk of Spencer and several county supervisors was held on Friday, Feb. 8 at The Shores in Emmetsburg. The topic was the improvement of water quality and identifying projects that would benefit both water and landowners.

"I presented the idea to Supervisors Ron Graettinger and Keith Wirtz of Palo Alto County," Don Etler, Engineer from Bolton & Menk began. "They thought it was a good idea and presented it to the rest of their Board and everyone agreed it was a good idea."

According to Etler the State Department of Agriculture has requested proposals from groups to establish and develop projects and ideas that can be submitted to Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship (IDALS).

"Starting in two years, $150 million will come through come through the State of Iowa that will be targeted toward edge of field water quality practices," Etler said. "They are really concerned that they will not have enough projects to use all the funding."
