New Attorney Begins Duties

Palo Alto County's new Assistant County Attorney began working on Jan. 2.

David Launder, is a small town boy at heart and when the opportunity came up to live and work in Emmetsburg, he knew it was time for a new chapter in life and to return to law.

Laudner grew up in Rockwell City. After graduation he went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts with majors in Economics and Political Science at Buena Vista University of Storm Lake in 2004. From there he went to the University of Iowa in Iowa City and graduated in 2007 with a Juris Doctorate.

After passing the Iowa Bar Exam, Launder joined the Heiny Law Firm of Mason City and worked for six years.

He tried both jury and non-jury trials, worked in juvenile courts as well as working with law enforcement agencies, the Department of Human Services and courthouse staff.

Launder sold insurance for five years using his ability to explain concepts directly to the consumer.

"I've had six years experience as a criminal attorney. Five years of selling incurance and now I've come full circle as a prosecuting attorney." Launder said.

"Small town kid. Small town opportunity. Love the small town environment," Launder added.
