Lovice Goodchild

MALLARD -- Funeral service for Lovice Goodchild of Emmetsburg, and formerly from Mallard, will be held 10:30 am Tuesday, March 26 at Harris Funeral Home and Chapel in Mallard.

Burial will be at Washington Cemetery in Havelock following the service.

The Harris Funeral Home in Mallard is in charge of arrangements.

Lovice Marie Weinzetl was born Aug. 14, 1937 in rural Palo Alto County, Iowa. She was raised on a farm west of Mallard and received her education at St. Mary's Catholic School in Mallard through 8th grade, graduating from Graettinger High School in 1955. She moved to Spencer upon graduation to work at the telephone office located there.

On April 14, 1957 Lovice was united in marriage to Jack J. Goodchild at the United Methodist Church in Mallard. To this union seven children were born. Barbara Ann, Connie Rae, Vera Kae, J. D., A. J., Coleen Fae, and Vickie Mae.

Lovice stayed home raising her children on their farm north of Mallard, supporting her husband Jack in his purebred hog business. She kept busy with gardening, canning, raising chickens, milking Bossie, and actively participating with the United Methodist Women.

In 1977 Lovice went to work at Pamline in Emmetsburg until the business closed. She then was bookkeeper at True Value in Emmetsburg, then Mallard City Clerk until her retirement in 2007. Lovice enjoyed her family, reading, crossword puzzles, sewing, finding new recipes, and golfing on Tuesdays. She was also a member of Holy Family Catholic Church.

Lovice Goodchild died Friday, March 22, 2019 at Lakeside Lutheran Home in Emmetsburg. She was 81.

Lovice was preceded in death by her husband Jack and infant daughter Barbara.

She is survived by her children J. D. (Wendy) Goodchild of Storm Lake, A. J. (Judi) Goodchild of Mallard, Connie Goodchild (friend Vern) of Sioux City, Vera (Max) Marckmann of Fontanelle, Coleen (Eric) Petersen of Sioux City, Vickie (Tony) Drake of Tecumseh, MI; and grandchildren: Alysia (Josh), Courtney (Nikki), Jared, Jake (Devin), Lauren (Jake), Katelyn, Justin (Cassie), Kolten, Dylan, Elizabeth, Alexandria, Seth, and Rylee.
