David E. Voigt

A Celebration of Life for David E. Voigt will be held Saturday, April 27, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg. This is a time to visit and share stories about David.

Inurnment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Emmetsburg. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg is in charge of arrangements.

David E. Voigt, son of Carl Vernon and Bessie Doris (Heng) Voigt, was born Feb. 25, 1953 in Emmetsburg. He received his education in Emmetsburg, graduating from Emmetsburg High School in 1971. While in high school, David was a member of the debate team and the cross country team. He was also active in the Senior band.

After graduating, David took courses in Auto Mechanics and graduated in March 1973. Shortly after graduating he was drafted into the United States Army on March 29, 1973. He served four years spending time on the Cambodian border. Dave was honorably discharged on March 28, 1977.

After returning to Iowa, Dave attended Iowa State University for three and a half years. He took a job driving truck for Umthun Trucking until their sale. He then spent many years driving for Decker Truck Line until his death.

Dave was an avid and very fast reader enjoying all kinds of books. He also liked collecting several different items.

David passed away Friday, Nov.16, 2018, in Fort Dodge, at the age of 65. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Bessie Voigt, and a sister, Carol Frederick.

He is survived by two brothers, Thomas W. (Carol) Voigt of Pataskala, OH and Charles V. (Lynn) Voigt of Altoona; three nieces and seven nephews; cousins; and the many people he interacted with during his driving years.
