"Hello, I would like to nominate my mother for Palo Alto County Mother of the Year award. She is a very willing mother who would do anything for me and my siblings, no matter what the situation is. All that I am, or hope to be, I owe to my amazing mother. She is willing to sacrifice things so I don't have to. My mother is always there to support me, and hold me up whenever I need her.

"She is a very hard-working mother and will go out of her way to make sure everyone is happy, especially my family. I would not trade her for anything, she is irreplaceable. It's good to know that wherever I am, my mother is with me no matter what. I am always able to trust her. She has gone through some ups and downs in her life but somehow she still finds the courage to keep being the amazing mother she is.

"She always comes home with a smile on her face no matter how tough her day has been taking care of others as a registered nurse. I just don't know how she does it. I hope I grow up to be just like her in every way. I don't know what I would do without her. This is why I nominate my mother to receive the Palo Alto County Mother of the Year award.

"Thank You."

The Reporter and The Democrat congratulate Kim Krause for being chosen 2019 Palo Alto County Mother of the Year.

Her dedication to her family and the community is appreciated by everyone.

Krause has worked for Community Health Services and Hospice for the past 12 years and she has worked as a registered nurse at Palo Alto County Health System.

Kim and her husband, Moe Krause, have three children, Shelby, Austin, and Emma. They live on an acreage outside of Emmetsburg.

Mother of the Year Kim received a bouquet from Blossoming Creations, Emmetsburg Chamber Bucks, and a Deja Brew gift certificate.

Honorable Mention

Loree Zwemke of Spencer submitted an essay that was judged Honorable Mention in the Mother of the Year contest.

Sue Zwemke of Emmetsburg, Loree's mother, was presented a plaque and Emmetsburg Chamber Bucks.

Here is Loree's nomination:

"My mom is a few years, some months, and a lot more days, young this year. I'm not sure if she ever won a contest in her lifetime but she would be my choice every time. Undoubtedly, through the years and with having four children, she has been tested and has shown what complete, unconditional love is. She has also taught us how to discipline without abuse and how to listen without judgement. To celebrate the good times with class, to show compassion and caring for the unfortunate, and to root for the underdog wholeheartedly. She's a young at heart, good old girl with a knack for helping people and during her working years it showed with some of her choices that included teaching Sunday School to working with handicapped adults and on to be a teachers assistant in the special education room. All mentioned were lucky to have her work with them. After all these years, I find myself making more and more time for her. She makes a wicked butterscotch pie and she makes me proud to be her child. If you took the time to read this, thank you and if you're able to, go give your mom a hug."

The Reporter and The Democrat thanks everyone who sent in nominations for Mother of the Year. The decision wasn't easy. We are already looking toward next year's contest.

A special thank you also goes out to those businesses who helped make the contest a success with items donated for prizes.
