E-Hawks Earn Win Over Warriors of North Union

The Emmetsburg E-Hawks played host to the Warriors of North Union on Thursday, May 23 and came away with their first win of the season.

Lex Kassel was the starting pitcher, pitching for six innings and throwing 100 pitchers.

He gave up one hit, walked three, and struck out 12, helping the E-Hawks gain victory.

Kassel was also at bat twice and walked both times.

Nick Schany was the starting catcher. He had two at bats, with one walk. He took advantage of the walk with a stolen base.

Connor Joyce started in the shortstop position. Joyce had two at bats with two hits. One of the two hits was a double.

Joyce had one stolen base, one walk, and one run batted in.

Cole Keller is the center fielder. He had three at bats with three hits, two runs, one walk and one run batted in.

Adam Deitering was in the second base position. He was at bat three times but was unable to capitalize the opportunity.

Sean Brennan walked on his only time at bat. Capitalizing on the free base pass, Brennan stole a base and earned a run.

First baseman, Grant Kibbie was walked in one of this two at bats.

Right fielder Colby Weir was at bat twice, had one hit and a walk. He was able to capitalize on one of the at bats with a stolen base and a run.

Cole Shirk, left field, made sure to capitalize on both his at bats. He had one hit and was walked once, with a stolen base and a run.

Overall, the E-Hawks had an excellent game with a total of 20 mat bats, six hits, nine, runs, one double, two runs batted in five stolen bases, and nine walks.

The guys scored in four of the six innings played. First inning - 2, second inning - 3, third inning, 1 and fifth inning 3 for a total score of 9.

It is the stats of the North Union team that tells the tale.

The pitchers did not far as well. In fact, North Union played two different pitcher throughout the game. Robert Ortman pitched for three innings, throwing 102 pitches.

He gave up only two hits but behind that comes six runs. The E-Hawks had an earned run of three against Ortman.

Ortman did round out his pitching game with seven walks and seven strike outs.

He ended the game with an earned run average of 7.00.

Elliott Hagebock also pitched two innings and throwing just 29 pitches.

Hagebock walked two and struck out two.

He gave up only one hit but the E-Hawks managed three runs and one earned run. This gave Hagebock and earned run average of 3.50.

The totals for the Warrior pitchers were five innings pitched with 131 pitchers thrown, walking nine and striking out nine.

They gave up three hits, nine runs and four earned runs.

The combined earned run average of the two pitchers was 5.60.

The final score was Emmetsburg 9 - North Union 0.

Emmetsburg has a record of one win - one loss. Both games have been against non-conference teams.

The next game for the E-Hawks boys is a non-conference game at Gilmore City on Tuesday, May 28 at 5:30 pm.
