Funeral services for Marvin W. Reese will be Saturday, June 1, at 10 a.m. at the P.C. Harris Hall (former Catholic Parish Hall) in Mallard.

Pastor Judy DePue will officiate, with inurnment in Ellington Cemetery, near Mallard.

The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Melvin Wesley Reese, son of Walter and Mary (Kinebel) Reese, was born Nov. 18, 1919 in Minnesota. On Sept. 10, 1940, Melvin was united in marriage to Carol Margaret McQuown in Pocahontas. They were blessed with two sons and seventy six years of marriage.

As a young man, Melvin moved to Iowa where he farmed and milked cows. He worked for the Iowa State Conservation Service for twenty five years. Melvin was instrumental in establishing the goose population at Ingham Lake. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being outdoors. Melvin and Carol enjoyed traveling together and built a home on Silver Lake near Ayrshire, which they thoroughly enjoyed.

Melvin passed away Saturday, Jan. 19, 2019, at the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg, at the age of 99. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Mary Reese; a son, Garry Reese; his wife, Carol; three brothers; and three sisters.

He is survived by a son, Thomas Reese of Mallard; grandchildren, Paula Stoker of Alpha, MN, Kristy (Gary) Schany of Curlew; Shannon Marsh of Pocahontas; great grandchildren; great-great grandchildren; nieces and nephews; as well as many other relatives and friends.
