Celebrate Independence Day Around the County

The Fourth of July is rapidly approaching and with it comes celebrations around the county for everyone to enjoy.

Activities are planned in Emmetsburg, Cylinder and West Bend.

Emmetsburg Fun on the Fourth at Soper Park

On Thursday, July 4, the fun begins bright and early with the 4th of July 5K Firecracker Color Run at 7:30 am, which is sponsored by the Hawkeye Dance Team. Start and finish will be at Soper Park. Registration is from 7:30 am to 8:05 am with an 8:15 am start time. Anyone who did not register early, the registration fee is $30 per person with no team discount. Registration fees are non-refundable. If anyone has questions, call Susan at 641-210-5629. All proceeds go to the EHS Dance Team for uniforms and state competitions. If you love to run, this is for you.

VFW Post #2295 is having children's is $30 per team. FUEL is also providing a Bounce House for the kids at 10:00 am. The final event at 10:00 am is a 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament hosted by City Recreation. Divisions will be 5th/6th, 7th/8th, and high school boys and girls. Registration is at the park at 9:30 pm.

The VFW Color Guard will present the flags at 1:00 pm. Mayor Myrna Heddinger will give an address to those in attendance at Soper Park. Once the Mayoral Address is finished, the Emmetsburg Municipal Band will perform a concert for the public to enjoy.

At 6:00 pm Mojo Productions DJ Music will entertain everyone with Music on the Beach dusk when there will be a fireworks display over Five Island Lake.

Cylinder Fourth of July Celebration

On Saturday evening, July 6, the City of Cylinder will hold its Fourth of July Celebration in the Cylinder City Park. Children's games including Face painting with Shelby, Fishing For Prizes, Jumpy House, Water Balloons, Rubber Duckie Pond, and a Bucket Relay. Also starting at 6:00, 'Beach Bum Barbeque' consisting of Pulled Pork Sandwiches, Hot Dogs, Baked Beans, Chips, Popcorn, Beverage, Free Watermelon, **New** this year, Cotton Candy and Snow Cones.

The Buck Hollow Band will be providing Music in the Park starting at 7:00 pm and will entertain people in attendance until dusk when there will be fireworks for all ages to enjoy.

West Bend 4th of July Celebration

The town farthest south in the County, West Bend. Their celebration of the Fourth of July begins on Friday, July 5 and ends on Sunday, July 7 and there is something for all ages to enjoy.

Beginning on Friday, July 5, there will be an Antique Tractor Ride. Start time is 8:00 am, with registration starting at 7:00 pm at West Bend Red Power. The ride is sponsored by the Hawkeye FFA Alumni.

The Palo Alto County Cattlemen are sponsoring a barbeque from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Main Street.

Just for the kids are the Kids Water Fights on Main Street from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm hosted by the West Bend Fire Department.

If running is your thing, at 5:30 pm is registration for the Color Run/Walk 5K at the West Bend School at the track. The race will start at 7:00 pm.

Going back to Main Street at 8:30 pm, you can sign up for the Baggo Tournament with the actual tournament beginning at 9:00 pm. Also beginning at 9:00 pm is a Street Dance, which lasts until 1:00 am.

On Saturday, July 6, parade entries need to line up at 9:00 am; no registration is required. The parade is scheduled to start at 11:00 am.

Following the parade at 12:30 pm, the West Bend School ground is the place to be. There will be games and tents for all ages.

From 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm, you can meet author Aaron Putz (Class of 1988) and have him sign his book "You are Destined for Greatness."

Also beginning at 12:30 pm will be the Kids Inflatables until 4:30m pm, Bingo until 3:30 pm, and free yard games, Wet Bend Ford Corn Box, and the Lego Tent all until 8:00 pm.

At 1:00 pm is the Kids Pedal Tractor Pull, free swimming at the West Bend Pool until 6:00 pm, and the FFA Petting Zoo, which will last until 3:00 pm.

Entertainment by Eric E will begin at 4:00 pm and at 4:30 pm is Open Mic Hour with piano music and more, followed by the Little Miss and Mister Contest and an Auction at 6:30 pm.

The Boy Scouts Troop 46 will help the American Legion in a Flag Retirement Ceremony at 8:00 pm, followed by Evening Entertainment by Eric E. at 9:00 pm. and he will be sharing songs and laughter. The finale of the evening's events will be at 10:00 pm when they will be shooting off fireworks.

The three-day event will end on Sunday, July 7, with a Pancake Breakfast sponsored by the West Bend Fire Department all will run from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm.
