Horizons Unlimited 21st Street Group Home is being honored with the Governor's Award for Quality Health Care Facilities at a special award ceremony on Wednesday, Aug. 7, at The Shores in Emmetsburg. The award was designed to recognize facilities that demonstrate the highest quality of care and commitment to their residents and honors Iowa nursing facilities, residential care facilities, and intermediate care facilities including those specializing in serving the intellectually disabled or persons with mental illness. The award is sponsored by the Iowa Department of Inspections and Appeals (DIA).

Horizons Unlimited was nominated for the award by the Mayor of Emmetsburg, Myrna Heddinger. The DIA evaluated the nomination as well as the facility's history of regulatory compliance and other criteria. In April, representatives from the DIA visited the 21st Street site and met with staff, family members, and residents of the group home. After thoroughly reviewing all of the nominated facilities, the DIA made their decision. Horizons Unlimited was contacted on Monday, July 29 and informed of their achievement.

The award ceremony begins at 10:30am on Wednesday in the Poet Room at The Shores in Emmetsburg. The public is encouraged to attend.
